Come this May, TalkTalk customers will be able to chat away without having to worry about phone bills. The provider has announced that all local calls will become free for its customers from 1st May onwards, and that even 0845 and 0870 numbers will become free to call after 2nd June.

It looks like TalkTalk is sticking with its trend of offering free services. The company was the first to offer free calls amongst its own customers, and then became the first provider to offer free bundled broadband to its phone customers. Now, in its biggest move so far, it is offering free local calls round-the-clock (click for the latest broadband deals).

TalkTalk has pointed out that the majority of calls made by its customers are local. Thus, by making these calls free, the company is looking to give significant value to the users and expand its customer base. Wendy Becker, Managing Director at TalkTalk, at the announcement of the new offer, said that the company has always been trying to give its customers the best deals possible and this was a major step in that direction.

TalkTalk may be balancing this offer by increasing the rental on its monthly plan, up from the current £11.25. The company has however argued that the increase in price is because of BT’s latest price rise in line rentals.
