How to Choose Colors for Your eBook Cover

December 1st, 2008 by admin

Color can have a profound impact on your prospective buyers. The wrong colors can negatively impact your sales, while the right colors can trigger positive emotions motivating your visitors to buy from you.

Color can affect how we feel and influence what we think. In general, bright bold colors tend to stir us up, while the softer pastel colors calm and relax us. Responses to colors can vary by age, gender and cultural background.

Colors will affect how a potential buyer reacts to your ebook. Carefully select your color scheme for your ebook cover. Here are some guidelines to help you make good color choices. Bear in mind that these are guidelines, and that there are no hard and fast rules. Just use common sense.

• Consider your audience. For example, if your ebook primarily targets men, then you will want to use strong, bold colors. If your target audience is women, then choose soft, pastel colors. If your focus is on children, choose bright, vibrant colors.

• Choose colors that are appropriate for your book’s topic. For example, green may work well for books about starting a home business, making money, and reducing debt.

• Use colors that match or complement the color scheme of your web site.

• Keep the number of colors down to two or three, and no more. This does not include photographs which can have a whole range of colors.

• When using photographs on your ebook cover, use colors that complement the primary color in the picture.

• Make sure that all of the colors you use work well together and do not clash.

• Communicate your message with easy-to-read text. Use colors for your text that contrast with the background color so your text is readable. For example, a dark font on a light background is easy to read.

• Consider the mood you want to create. Remember that emotions trigger sales. People buy what they want - not what they need. The list below will show you how colors can affect us in different ways.

Red - Action, energy, strength, passion, fire, heat, power, attention-getting. Can also mean love and romance. A strong masculine color. Red is a good color for a call-to-action. Red is cheerfulness, excitement, and warmth. Pink is a soft version of red. It is most associated with romance, calming affect; a feminine color.

Blue - Confidence, travel, freedom, truth, professionalism, wealth and power. Also tranquility, dependable, acceptance, patience, understanding, cooperation, comfort, loyalty and security. It is one of the most calming colors and is associated with the sky and the sea, intelligence, reassurance, and trust. Blue has also been known to be an appetite suppressant, so it would not be good for cookbooks or recipes but you can consider it for diet books.

Green - Money, wealth, prosperity, calm, health, food, nature, hope, growth, freshness, soothing, sharing, and responsiveness. Green symbolizes spring, renewal, and fertility.

Orange - Health and vitality, autumn, youthfulness, fire, steadfastness, courage, confidence, friendliness, cheerfulness, warmth, excitement and energy. Has been known to stimulate the appetite. Vibrant and warm, orange is associated with autumn and the earth.

Yellow - Light, purity, understanding, caution, brightness, intelligence, joy, organization, Spring. Yellow often represents sunshine, warmth, light, energy and happiness.

Purple - Dignity, sophistication, creativity, spirituality and mystery. Deep purple is associated with royalty and richness, while lavender is associated with romance and nostalgia.

Brown - Credibility, stability, the hearth, home, the earth, wood, comfort and strength. Brown can be used as a neutral or a warm color.

Black - Space, night, authority, dramatic, classy, committed, serious, power, elegance, and sophistication.

White - Purity, peace, perfection, fresh, easy, cleanliness, goodness, and spirituality. Worth noting here, white represents life and marriage in Western cultures, but it represents death and sorrow in Eastern cultures.

Grey - A conservative color, symbolizing security, maturity and reliability.

Take advantage of the impact color can have on your ebook sales and choose colors that will create positive responses.

3 Powerful “Types” of eBooks That You Can Sell Online

November 28th, 2008 by admin

A big part of knowing how to write and sell ebooks
is understanding exactly what will turn a prospect
into a hungry buyer.

As you may have already discovered in my “Ultimate
Information Entrepreneur’s Success Package”, earning
months and years of leveraged income from a few weeks
writing has virtually NOTHING to do with your writing
ability, but EVERYTHING to do with understanding how to
identify and satisfy a raging hunger within markets.

When you think about how to write a sell ebooks,
think about 1 of these 3 proven “types” of infoproducts
that will turn your prospects into buyers…

1. Innovator. You have identified a tip, technique
or strategy that will go one-step further (incremental
innovation) or take a giant LEAP forward (radical
innovation) than is currently available.

To understand how to write and sell ebooks as the
“innovator”, you have a very good grasp of both what
the prospector is really looking for and what currently
exists in your marketplace.

2. Collector. The value in this type of information
product is to collect sources of information from a wide
variety of sources and distill it down to the “best of”
or a compilation of strategies aimed at satisfying
a given market demand.

3. Investigator. Yet another method of how to write
and sell ebooks, the investigator seeks to discover
and prove the value of a given approach.

Discovery allows you to bring value by bringing to light
little-known or “underground” secrets to solving specific
problems

Proving the value of a given approach is also of high value
in this age of skepticism and doubt. If you can provide
case studies to support a given approach, you’ll be
bringing extra value to the market.

Now, each of these approaches has its advantages and
disadvantages.

When most people think of how to write and sell ebooks,
they think of being collectors, however adding an aspect
of innovation is how you can really differentiate yourself
in your market.

Innovation allows you to claim ownership to solving an
urgent and pressing problem for your market. Out of
owership will come branding, and out of branding can come
tremendous financial advantages.

I have used all 3 approaches and advise everyone who is
serious about becoming an information entrepreneur and
wants to know how to write and sell ebooks to use each
approach.

In your market, you can likely come up with a combination
of innovative solutions, compilations of tips and ideas,
and journalistic ideas such as key interview subjects or
candidates.

Making Money Online Is Easy

November 25th, 2008 by admin

Wouldn’t it be INCREDIBLE to be financially FREE? To be flexible enough to live out your heart’s desire? Achieve this by starting your own online business, selling informational products.

Why do you want to sell Informational Products? Because it is easy and free or low in cost to create your IDEA into an informational product for example: an e-Book, like this article; a Video product or an Audio product, from the comfort of your own home by using a word processor.

Imagine working once on creating an ASSET that will work for you from then on, generating money constantly. How do you create such an informational product? Look into your heart and discover your own interests and hobbies. Use these to formulate the idea on what you are going to create your informational product on, and then choose an interesting topic. Do your research and find out what other people are talking about in forums, discussion groups, or on the news and find a common problem that these people have relating to the theme of the topic you choose.

Now it is time to find a solution to this problem, by any means of research for example, read other articles and evaluate them, take a course on the topic and use this research of yours to create an informational product which you can now sell to this group of people, solving their problem. You are guaranteed to have them come back running as soon as they experience another problem on the same topic, instantly creating opportunities for sequels you’ll love making for them because you have the same interests at heart.

Anything is possible as long as you believe in yourself and take action today to become Financially Free.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article and wishing you all the best of luck.

E-books as Your Best Asset

November 25th, 2008 by admin

Are you thinking of starting a business online? Are you not sure what type of product to sell or to promote? Well, I was just reading an amazing E-book that shared some very simple concepts that anyone can implement, and they start with having one thing, an E-book.

Information is constantly being distributed and passed around for free on the internet. You can read free internet articles on how to trade stocks, or how to improve your golf swing, but those articles don’t always give you a step by step guide to learn all the tricks. People are now relying on information that will help guide them in doing a highly specialized trade, like trading stocks, repairing vintage automobiles, or losing weight. There are many paper books available that will teach you how to do these things, but much of the time, people are going to the internet to find solutions and find current information on specialized trades.

Let’s look at some reasons why an E-book can be your greatest asset:

1. An E-book is digital, and can be kept online at your website, not at a warehouse.

2. It can only be downloaded from your website 24/7 and as it is totally secure, it cannot be passed around the internet as a free un-secure article.

3. You have to buy an E-book to read it. It can only be read after it is paid for.

4. Once you create an E-book, it is forever available.

5. You’ll never run out of inventory, as there is no inventory.

6. After writing the E-book, your work is done, and you can sit back and let it make money for you. Of course, the more you keep it updated, and the more E-books you write, the more profit potential you have.

7. When you sell an E-book, the customer does not have to wait for it. It’s delivered to them instantly, and they can conveniently store it on their computer or laptop, so it is available to them more easily.

8. Paper Books take about a year to get published and cost a lot of money in printing, postage and handling. E-books have no publishing cost, and can be delivered through the internet saving time and money on postage and handling.

9. You can use very simple and sophisticated internet marketing tools to drive traffic to your website for people to buy your E-books.

10. E-books can always be revised and kept updated as fast as you can create new content. This makes E-books more current than a normal paperback.

11. Your E-book can be bought forever. This gives you unlimited profit potential.

So, think about spending some extra time and compile a 30-100 page E-book, that is high quality, and gives the customer great value. The time you spend doing this can make you money forever. When we start thinking about moving our mindset from trading our time for money, to having our assets work for us, we start to shift from having to always work for our money, to letting our E-books work for us.

You, Marketing-Minded Financial Planner, Can Be an Author

November 24th, 2008 by admin

After you’ve gotten in the groove of turning out articles and notes to reporters about your topic, take it to the next step: Write and self-publish a book about your topics.

Does this seem intimidating, or even impossible (not to mention expensive). Believe me, it isn’t. I know, because I did it.

You can write the entire thing in a word processor, and a publisher will turn it into a book. It’s not hard, and is less expensive than you might think.

A reputable self-publisher will create a book with a professional-looking cover and an ISBN number so you can sell it on sites like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. It’s not likely to become a best-seller, but you might generate a little bit of revenue.

Besides, the point of the book isn’t to top the New York Times charts. Instead, you can use it to grow your financial planning practice through marketing and publicity.

Being an author gives you automatic credibility with the media, most of whom would kill to have the time to write a book. You can even use the event of the book’s launch to line up some local TV or radio interviews.

Give the book to everyone, including the media. Send it to your best clients and your best sources for referrals. Sell it for a cheap rate, if you can, when you give speeches to community or business groups. It’s a powerful tool to build your reputation and get your name in front of prospects.

You’ve Got To Be Joking!

November 22nd, 2008 by admin

I don’t know about you, but I get a lot of joke stuff arriving in my email. I’ve got one buddy in particular who hardly lets a day go by without sending something.

Sometimes they’re side-splittingly hilarious, and other times they just don’t make the grade — it’s a question of taste I suppose.

Anyway, I was cleaning up my folders in Outlook Express recently to make some space on my hard disk (I’ve got a whopping 20 Gb and I’m already getting low on space — must be all those MP3’s…)

Well, anyway, I knew that my ‘Jokes’ folder was taking up a lot of memory (it’s full of images, video files and so on), so I decided that a major cull was needed.

As I went down the list, I had no problem deleting the turkeys, but it broke my heart to delete the jokes that could still make me laugh second time around.

And then it hit me. Why not make an ebook full of all the funniest stuff? That way, I can delete them from my hard disk and pack them all neatly into a single, compressed ebook file. And, thus, the idea for “101 Hilarious Jokes To eMail Your Friends” was born.

It was never my intention to actually sell this ebook, (which is why you’ll find it free on the BizzyDays website). However, it was never my expectation either, that it would prove to be such a resounding success.

Sure, I knew it would be popular with visitors. After all a joke collection is always a popular idea and, if it’s free, well hey, all the better.

The point though is, I never fully appreciated just how much additional traffic this funny little book could generate. I get at least 100 extra visitors EVERY DAY thanks to a book that I just put together to save disk space.

Not bad for two hours of enjoyable ‘work’.

So what’s the moral of the story?

Well there are three of them:

MORAL# 1: Free ebooks are a terrific way to promote any online business. You can read more about that in a previous article called “Are you using the 4-letter word?” which is available here: http://bizzydays.com/reprint_rights/reprint.htm

MORAL# 2: People like jokes! Humor is always in demand and, yes, a lot of people are willing to pay for it.

But here’s a tip if you plan on selling joke ebooks — don’t make a general “101 Jokes” ebook. It would sell some copies, but not enough. A far better approach is to target SPECIFIC audiences.

Instead of ‘101 Hilarious Jokes To eMail Your Friends’ why not “101 Hilarious Jokes For Expectant Moms”, “101 Hilarious Jokes For Lawyers With A Conscience” or “101 Hilarious Jokes For Dairy Farmers”.

Okay, I admit, that the second title wouldn’t have much of a market :-), but imagine the novelty gift idea value of the others.

Okay, specialist joke books will take you longer to compile than general joke books, but think of the fun you’ll have along the way.

Once you’ve finished compiling an appropriate collection of jokes for the target market, all you’ve got to do is ensure that you aim your promotion at the right people and, hey presto, you’re in the money!

MORAL# 3: There is an infinite number of ideas for top-selling ebooks and coming up with those ideas is much easier than you may think. And, once you know how to pluck great ideas out of thin air, your success in ebook publishing is a simple matter of promoting your ebooks to the right target market.

Have fun!

How to Write an E-Book Faster Than It Takes To Read This Article

November 21st, 2008 by admin

How fast can you write an e-book?

Though Jim Edwards and I wrote a #1 best-selling e-book titled “How to Write and Publish Your Own OUTRAGEOUSLY Profitable e-Book in as little as 7 days,” you can do it even quicker than 7 days.

How?

Here are at least three ways:

1. Don’t write it.

That is, speak your book and then transcribe it using a service such as www.idictate.com. Or use one of the voice recognition software out there, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking. Either way, if you’re more comfortable speaking rather than writing, speak your book first.

2. Coauthor it.

You can make yourself almost instantly famous by associating yourself with someone who is already famous. Jim Edwards came to me over two years ago and asked to coauthor a book with me. He said he would do most of the work. I agreed. The result was the e-book I mentioned above, which continues to be a bestseller. Since then, Jim is now a recognized authority in his own right and has written several other e-books.

3. Make soup.

This is the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” approach to creating a book. You don’t write a word. You simply ask people for contributions. Joe Kumar did this with his popular e-book “30 Days to Internet Marketing Success.” Joe is a teenager in Singapore, totally unknown until he compiled his ebook and made himself an online celebrity. Jo Han Mok and I just did this with our new book, “The E-Code.” We simply wrote people and asked for their contribution. It’s amazingly easy to do. You can be unknown, and famous people will give you contributions.

Again, writing e-books doesn’t have to be hard or take a lot of time. The trick is in delivering something people want. Do that and no one will care if you wrote your baby in an hour, a day, or a week.

But once it’s written, you can make passive money from it for a long, long time.

Go for it!

How to Prevent Theft of Your Ebooks - Part 2: Stop Illegal Downloads

November 21st, 2008 by admin

If you sell downloadable products (via ClickBank, PayPal, etc.), you need to be sure that no-one can access those products unless they’ve paid for them. It’s no secret that there are many people out there who will try to get to your download pages without paying for your product or, worse again, will make your download links available for free to others.

So what can you do to prevent this from happening?

Here are a few tips that won’t provide 100% protection, but will ensure that the majority of users will not be able to easily access and steal your products.

1. NAMING YOUR DOWNLOAD PAGE

If you name your download page something like ‘thankyou.html’ or ‘download.html’ then it’s a pretty simple process for the average hacker to locate your page and download your product. Give your download pages a complicated name that is neither easy to guess, easy to remember nor easy to recognize.

2. CREATE ‘NESTED’ DIRECTORIES

In keeping with point number 1, this is just a question of making it more difficult for the average hacker to find your download pages.

Let’s say you’re selling an ebook called “How to Make Your Hamster Happy”. Now, let’s say you’re selling it at this URL: http://www.yourdomainname.com/happyhamster.

In this example, your sales page is contained in the directory called ‘happyhamster’.

Now, rather than store your download page in this same directory, you can make life more difficult for the hacker by creating sub-directories (or ‘nested’ directories) for your download page.

Just create a sub-directory inside ‘happyhamster’ called, for example, ’srB45n’ and another directory inside that one called ‘trd12s’ (or whatever) and then place your download page inside this directory. In this scenario, your download page would be contained at this, more hidden, address: http://www.yourdomainname.com/happyhamster/srB45n rd12s

Another approach is to place your download page directory in a separate place altogether on your server - thus making it even more difficult for a hacker to track it down.

3. CREATE AN INDEX.HTM PAGE FOR EVERY FOLDER

If you don’t have a page called ‘index.htm’ in the directory that contains your download page, then your host server will display a page listing the contents of that directory.

Here’s an example of a directory that doesn’t have an ‘index.htm’ page: http://bizzydays.com/example. As you can see, the contents of the directory are there for all to see (and download).

Your ‘index’ page can be a regular page from your site or you can make it re-direct the visitor somewhere else. You can see this idea in action by visiting http://bizzydays.com/free. As you can see, when you try to access that directory, you’re immediately re-directed to the BizzyDays.com home page.

To create your own re-direct page, simply paste the following HTML code into Windows Notepad (or your web-editing software) and save it as ‘index.htm’ or ‘index.html’. Now upload it to the folder you wish to protect.

<.html> <.head> <.meta HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0;URL=FULL_ADDRESS _HERE"> <.meta name="robots" content="noindex"> <.title> <./head> <.body> <./body> <./html>

NOTE: I’ve placed dots (.) after the “<" in all the lines above. This is to ensure that the code shows up properly here. When using this on your web page, remove those dots. NOTE: Be sure to replace the URL with the address you want to re-direct the visitor to.

4. HIDE YOUR DOWNLOAD PAGES FROM THE SEARCH ENGINES

It’s amazing how many download pages you’ll find via the search engines if you put your mind to it. In fact, one search I just ran on Google turned up two download pages on the first page of results (albeit both from the same website).

To get around this, you need to ensure that the search engines do not include your download pages in their index.

To do this, just place the following snippet of code between the <.head> and <./head> tags at the top of your download page’s HTML…(again, remove the dot)

<.meta name="robots" content="nofollow,noindex">

5. PROTECT YOUR PAYPAL ORDER BUTTONS

PayPal is a great service but it has a gaping security hole that affects anyone selling downloadable products.

When you sell via PayPal, even the most amateur of hackers can find out the location of your download page just by looking at the HTML code on your sales page.

One way around this is to use HTML encryption software to render the HTML of your sales page un-readable. While this will stop the majority of hackers, the more determined ones will probably be able to crack the code.

Another approach is to use specialized software like ‘PayLock Generator’ (http://bizzydays.com/paypal) which creates highly encrypted PayPal order buttons that are very difficult to crack.

6. CHANGE YOUR DOWNLOAD LINKS OFTEN

This one is pretty self-explanatory. If you’ve followed the steps outlined above, then you’ve gone some way towards protecting your digital products. It’s not 100% protection, however, which is why I recommend changing your download links regularly. This will help ensure that, if someone does manage to access your products, and has been leaving your download links on forums or whatever, then you’ll be able to cut them off.

7. PUT A STATEMENT ON YOUR EBOOK

If someone is giving your ebook away for free, it’s not a given that everyone who downloads it will be as dishonest as the one giving it away. It’s a good idea to place a prominent statement inside your ebook explaining that it’s not a free ebook. Ask readers to contact you if they received the ebook for free explaining where they downloaded it. You might consider offering a small ‘reward’ for taking the time to contact you.

Okay, those are the basic steps you can (and should) take to protect your downloads. If you’re worried that this isn’t enough, then you’ll find some additional resources below that really go the extra mile. (I use these myself so I can testify to their worth).

Just one final point… after you make the changes outlined above, be sure to double-check everything is working okay.

Why researching is good, and a failure to do so is not.

November 21st, 2008 by admin

What a lack of research could do to you. by Brian Holte Copyright 2004 August

This article may be re-published as long as the source box remains. Notification of use would be appreciated.

When creating an ebook how well do you research the topic before hand?

It’s absolutely crucial that you research what problems your target market is having and what they’re spending money on.

The time to pay attention to detail is here.

If you don’t research how will you know what problems exist in your target market, what their recommending for products to try, pay even closer attention to the dollars involved. Hope fully they’re purchasing pattern will lead into 3 digit numbers.

This is why probing for the information you need you’ll be in a better position to analyze the information to see if it’s a worthwhile project to start, if not junk it.

Case in point, I recently had a young lad email me and explain he was a first time author of a 30 pg ebook targeted at teenagers.

He realized that because his target market is teenagers and teenagers do not purchase as frequently online as adults do that he was in a bit of a bind.

What was he to do? He’d put a bit of work into his project and knowing what he does now, he has to decide whether to sell or give it away. He needed some positive feedback, nothing to devastating. Instead of targeting students he could alter the ebook towards another target market, a market with money to spend and a hunger for his type of info product. Just a little copying, pasting, and editing.

Praise those accomplishments: The first thing I did was congratulate him for being a first time author.

Good topic, wrong market for low income earners: The topic he was covering was actually a good topic, but he realized after the fact that he had probably created a dud for an ebook because of the restrictions imposed on his target market…lack of access to purchasing power.

What would you do in his position?

His question to me was what he should do with the ebook. He had considered giving it away to people as an incentive for them to sign up for his newsletter, or selling the ebook at $5.00 a copy. Indication of his problems: I assumed that because he only put a price tag of $5.00 on the book that he was either not comfortable with the content he placed in the ebook OR that he was selling himself short. I would assume the latter.

Summary:

The collection of data, decision time. Once you’ve collected what you think is all the info required via surveys, it is now time for the decision making process

Why researching the right way the first time will save you hair loss and disappointment:

This is why doing a thorough job in the researching part of your work is so important. If he would have put a little more thought into who his target market was he wouldn’t have created a dud for an info product.

Lack of researching is the number one mistake that most new authors make, take your time researching…what’s the rush?
