10 Excuses for NOT Authoring an eBook!

January 5th, 2010 by admin

Most people at one time or another have said to themselves, “Someday I’d like to write a book.” or “I only wish that someone would write a book about ______.” or “I think there would be a lot of people who would be interested in what I have to share about _____ .”

Before the existence of eBooks (electronic books), writing and publishing a book would have been a daunting task. Not so with the marriage of creative writing and eBook technology. eBooks make writing a book relatively easy, affordable, and doable without the need to sell your sole to the publishing devils!

eBooks have advantages that standard books do not. The author can control the entire process from creating to writing to publishing to marketing to sales. eBooks have only a reasonable investment involved in their production and distribution. eBooks provide passive income; a positive reputation as an author; tax breaks as a self-employed entrepreneur; the ability to target niche markets that otherwise would never be considered by standard publishers; act as catalysts for further sales of products and services; access to a world-wide market 24/7; a boost to personal and professional self-esteem; and for many, a fulfillment of a life-long dream - authoring an eBook.

Despite all the advantages to writing an eBook, only some of them listed above, there will always be individuals who like to make excuses for not doing what they really want to do.

With tongue firmly planted in cheek, here are some excuses for not writing an eBook that are really very good reasons for experiencing the adventure known as the eBook authoring journey.

The following 10 excuses are presented in no particular order of importance. They are part of a much longer list.

Excuse # 1

I crave anonymity. I like being the “unknown wannabe author”. Who needs fame anyway! I’d rather be nameless and faceless in the crowd. I’ve never made a name for myself so why start now!

Okay, whoever you are! This excuse speaks to several attitudes prevalent among those not seeing the true value of becoming a published author. Bringing positive attention to oneself doing something that others will appreciate is a powerful incentive to discard that cloak of anonymity and step in to a world of “niche recognition”. Do it for others. Do it for you. Seek fame among the “minority” (and maybe fortune too).

Excuse # 2

Money isn’t everything you know. I’ve got enough money so the opportunity to make residual income with relatively little work on my part holds no particular allure.

Okay, Donald Trump, we get the message! Even Donald, with all his money, recognizes that making money is a worthwhile endeavor. Finding ways that can meet your needs at a personal/professional level and combining them with making money is the true “entrepreneurial spirit” upon which civilizations have prospered. But I get carried away! There is nothing wrong with making a profit being one of your motivations for writing an eBook!

Excuse # 3

Nobody helped me get to where I am today. I didn’t learn anything from mentors who helped me. I didn’t read anything written by experts in the field who acted like mentors to me. I did it all by myself so others can do the same thing.

Are you serious? What about all those text books and self-help books you read? What about owners’ manuals, special interest classes, supervisor’s assistance, courses and training sessions, colleagues…? “No man is an island.” You didn’t get to where you are today without the help of others. eBooks are an opportunity to give back to that pool of attitudes, skills and knowledge that you learned from others and add to it your unique insights, experiences, and reflections. Leave a legacy of your accumulated wisdom for others. What you give comes back a hundred fold!

Excuse # 4

I just don’t have that entrepreneurial spirit. Being self-employed with all its tax breaks and income after retirement is just not “real” for me.

Everybody has an entrepreneurial spirit. Remember those childhood days when you sold “Kool-Aid” at the curbside to the guys who were putting in the sewers. You loved collecting all that money. And spending it. eBook authoring is much the same. Only the profits will be after expenses not without expenses like in the “Kool-Aid” experience where Mom and Dad supplied the capital. Not like the “Kool-Aid” days. The world of small business (eCommerce) is a fascinating place to be. It teaches you an appreciation for so much that goes on behind the scenes of our commerce system. It makes you an active player. It’s exciting.

Excuse # 5

I’m not passionate about anything. I have trouble carrying on a conversation about things I feel passionate about so I know I can’t write an eBook. After all, if I can’t talk I can’t write!

Think back to the last time you got an opportunity to talk about something you really care about. Was it your hobby or interest, your project at work, a ’cause’ that is beneficial to others, an event currently in the news, a life-long pursuit, a ‘calling’…? There are few among us who don’t have at least one thing about which we are passionate. About which we could talk forever. If you can talk about it, you can write about it. eBooks are informal in nature and conversational in form. All you need is a niche market of people like yourself who share your passion. Passion makes good eBook authors.

Excuse # 6

There is already too much information out there! Information is the same today as it was yesterday. Nothing really changes. It’s the same old, same old, all the time.

Where have you been? The Internet is viewed as the source of information in the information age. Combine the information age with the technological advances and you create tremendous problems. People are busier and more productive today than they have ever been. So what’s the problem that eBooks can solve? With your experience, you can sort through the over-abundance of information and help direct that information to solving your niche market’s problems saving them time, effort and money. And they are more than willing to pay you for this! Use the Internet and eBook technology to reach those who appreciate it most - on the Internet. With eBook technology, updating information is easy and affordable making your eBook a living, growing document.

Excuse # 7

I have nothing new to add to the subject of my interest - no new material, attitudes, experiences, problem-solving approaches, information, philosophies, theories, perspectives, knowledge, skills, attitudes… nothing!

Do you really believe that? Are you not a unique individual? Do your unique experiences not bring something new to the subject? Think back to when you first became interested in the topic for your eBook. Think about your journey to where you are presently. Think about others and their journeys which may be just beginning or are being bogged down and need some rejuvenation. What can you offer to these people? How have your successes been forged? Shouldn’t others know how you did it? Your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) is what makes you different from others. It’s not that information isn’t available - it’s just that your uniqueness in sharing your information is what others want and need.

Excuse # 8

I’m not up to the challenges. Boredom is ok with me. Change is bad!

Climb out of your rut. You’ve been stuck there too long. What ever happened to the thrill of experiencing new adventures? What happened to your childhood reckless abandon? What happened to your life? Take up a new challenge that will change you forever. Embark on an eBook authoring journey that will provide you with an opportunity to take a good hard look at yourself. Change is inevitable. Embrace it. Take advantage of the opportunity to share your passion with a world-wide audience. Change their lives while you yourself undergo a change. eBook authors get more out of writing the book than the readers do in reading it! Create your own ‘reality’ show. Get on with it!

Excuse #9

I only care about myself. Why would I want to make a difference world-wide 24/7 when all I care about is me right this minute. I live for the minute. My minute.

My world is small. My influence is confined. My fame is restricted. My ambitions are limited. My aspirations are within easy reach. My life is… Imagine the thrill of seeing your published eBook cover on a web site. Imagine the excitement of someone purchasing your eBook. Imagine your amazement when customers from hundreds of different countries download your eBook. Imagine the feeling of receiving emails seeking your advice, of encouraging you to write another eBook, of expressions of appreciation for what you have done to help solve someone’s problem. Imagine an income in retirement or a new career built around your eBook. Expand your horizons. Look “outside” and “inside” yourself. Write your eBook!

Excuse #10

I have trouble committing to getting up in the morning. I’d have to commit to a life-altering experience if I wrote an eBook and right now getting up in the morning is plenty hard enough.

While we can empathize with you we can’t sympathize. We all have trouble getting up some mornings. But you can’t make that your excuse forever. One of the biggest steps in the eBook authoring process is the Commitment step. It is at this point in your journey that you publicly must announce your intention to write an eBook. You must be prepared for the feedback that will inevitably come your way. Making a commitment to something is a learned behaviour. Once you share your ideas with others, a marvelous thing happens. People want to help you. They want you to succeed. You suddenly have a team where not long before there was only you and your dream. The journey begins with a single step. Public commitment is often the most important step.

You may have a few other excuses you might like to use. Go ahead. But remember, there are convincing arguments against every one of them. Don’t believe me? Ask someone who is successful.

No more excuses. Get on with it. Write your eBook.

What You Should Know before Buying Bedding - Absorbing

July 9th, 2009 by admin

It was common to have white comforter covers in everybodys bedroom quite some time back. You are stunned at the range of unique bed sheets that are on offer today. Bedding was never so beautiful with the vibrant colourings, prints and textures that are offered in bedding today

Following are some factors that matter a lot when you buy a bedsheet.

Calculate the beds proportions

It is a common myth that one queen bed or king bed has the same proportions which is so untrue. The top proportions might be the same, but again the measurements differ with each maker. Due to this variant in the proportions, it is safe to measure all the proportions and the depth of your mattress too. Your bed could be shorter or longer than another one from the same maker. Measuring your bed will give you an idea of the sizing of your bed sheet before buying.

Choose your Shop

You will find a lot of top names in bed linen available in a departmental store near you. For a unique look, some people also go for embroidered bed sheets with sequins. If you still cannot find what you want, try the online stores. For those who still love their cotton fiber sheets, a discount rate storehouse is where you should travel to.

Do you know what is a thread count?

A thread count signifies the count of threads consisted in one square inch of a sheet in both weaving directions. This count is mentioned on the label of the bedsheet itself. A lush texture calls for a high thread count. All The Same do not go for a very high thread count as it connotes the singular threads are light and may not give the preferred easy feeling. A soft bed sheet has a thread count that lies between 175 and 250.

Choose the bed sheet fabric.

A material that is moderately priced and feels nice to sleep on is the one for you. Cotton sheets are still liked, but blended cotton is preferred by those who dont like lines. A crisp night calls for a flannel bed sheet. For a lavish look, go for satin, silk or microfiber.

Check out the sheet dimensions

The size of the bed sheet you select has to be checked at this point. It is crucial to verify if the bed sheet you are buying will fit well on your bed. Remember that all bedding shrink by 7% when they are first washed. Also, if these sheets are fine, purchase some extra sets for your beds. They help greatly in case one of the sheets is torn or soiled..

Hope these six steps lead you to finding a perfect bedsheet for your bed.

How Did Barrister Bookcases Come into Existence? - it Is Captivating

May 23rd, 2009 by admin

Bookcases are an necessary piece of any library. books are safe and free from dirt and debris in a bookcase. Bookcases generally have flat compartments for keeping publications. These bookshelves sometimes come with glass doors for ready to hand admittance to the contents.

Tell me about a barrister bookcase.

A barristers job involves referring several wide worthy books each twenty-four hour period. the legal daybooks are costly and attorneys demand to consult them often. A barrister bookcase is a kind of bookcase particularly created for stashing away such tremendous volumes utilised by barristers. These attorneys bookcases are usually created using oak wood, cherry wood in different finishes and tinges.

How did people store volumes when barrister bookcases did not exist?

Volumes were not found commonly, so nobody thought of how to store them. books in old years were hand-penned only. wealthy individuals who owned them stored them in getatable containers. It was the wealthy mans privilege to own and carry books as they were not affordable. These containers served as a bookcase for them.

As time passed, these manuscript volumes were owned by lots of such clergymen and affluent people in a large number. Due to this, the volumes were located in closets or on shelves. The bookshelves that we see Now are an offspring of these closets in the past, without the doors.

What technique was employed for stacking away books?

These books were not located with a modern approach. The volumes would be placed on their sides or with the edge on the forefront. these books had a band built from leather or parchment as a cover that mentioned the title too. This band was located on the front edge and hence the volumes were placed with their edges facing out.

After publishing engineering was invented, books were easily available to the general man due to the diminished costs.Another contributed gain of publishing was that the newspaper publishers published the title on the back of the volume so that the edges were placed inwards.

Which materials were mainly used?

In the olden years, barrister bookcases were created of oak primarily. there were other choices of maple, cherry and pine wood if you liked.Custom-produced barrister bookcases can be made in steel too for reducing wood price and strength. The Bodleian Library at Oxford University houses the oldest bookcases. these bookcases are present here from sixteenth century onward.

Chippendale and Sheraton were the leading bookcase designers who created the most beautiful bookcases. These bookcases indeed contributed to the elegance of the room.

How are the latest bookcases different?

Isnt it great to walk into the past times of a barrister bookcase, which was once just a bookshelf?

Book Review - Net Entrepreneurs Only

May 22nd, 2009 by admin

Everyone loves to read other peoples success stories. It provides us with evidence that amazing things do happen to normal people. By learning what they did to succeed we come one step closer to success ourselves. Such is the case with the ten stories told in Net Entrepreneurs Only - 10 Entrepreneurs Tell the Stories of their Success by Gregory K. Ericksen and Ernst & Young.

Ericksen interviewed ten of the most successful entrepreneurs at the turn of the century and presents their stories with a unique but effective use of lengthy quotes from the entrepreneurs. The quotes leave you with a feeling of having actually interviewed the entrepreneur yourself rather than reading a story about them. Each story is about 20 pages long but reads more like 10 pages because of the big print and free flowing pace.

The 10 entrepreneurs chronicled in the book are Jay S. Walker (priceline.com), Mike McNulty and Mike Hagan (VerticalNet), Christina Jones (pcOrder), William Porter and Christos Cotsakos (E*Trade), Gregory K. Jones (uBid), Russell Horowitz (Go2Net), Ken Pasterna (Knight/Trimark), William Schrader (PSINet), Pierre Omidyar (eBay), and Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner (broadcast.com).

Each entrepreneur has a unique story of how and why they saw the internet as a viable place to start a business, and each had a different way of getting there, but after reading all ten stories you can see some common threads between these extremely successful net entrepreneurs. Although this book was written at a time when internet business success was substantially easier (the book was published in 2000), many of the core competencies that these entrepreneurs possess can be applied in any era to any industry.

Each is extremely passionate about what they do to the point that they inspire others around them to have the same passion. Each is not afraid to take a risk, regardless of whether or not other people disagree with it. Along with that, each knows that failure is inevitable when taking risks and understands that future success depends on the ability to learn from failure and move on.

Another interesting thing that was mentioned in three of the ten stories is the fear of being blindsided by an opponent that they can’t see coming. They all talk about the proverbial kid in his basement or garage that comes up with the technology that puts them out of business. When talking about Mark Cuban, Todd Wagner said:

“I know Mark worries, among other things, about the proverbial 12-year-old in the garage [coming up with technological breakthroughs] and us being blindsided.”

This commonality is particularly interesting, and I suspect it comes from the fact that many of these entrepreneurs WERE THAT KID and they fear the second coming of themselves more than anything else. They probably fear that this “kid” will have the same passion and determination that they once had, and that, more than anything else scares them.

If I had read this book when it was written I would certainly have recommended it to any young entrepreneur. However, years later I recommend it EVEN MORE. I think that it’s a must read for anyone looking to go into business or currently in business.

The thing that you can do now that you couldn’t do when the book was written is find out what’s happened to these entrepreneurs and their companies in the time that has passed since the book’s publication. One of the biggest joys of reading this book was trying to guess whether or not these companies still existed and whether or not the same entrepreneur was still running them.

Knowing that there was the dot-com boom and subsequent crash around that time, I figured there was less than a 50/50 chance that these businesses were still around. I’m not going to ruin the individual surprises, but there was a fairly vast array of directions that these companies and entrepreneurs went after the dot-com crash.

Some of the entrepreneurs we’ve all heard of (Mark Cuban), and some of the companies we know still exist and are very successful (eBay), but many the average reader won’t be familiar with. Doing the research to find out where they are today adds an extra dimension to the book that a reader wouldn’t have experienced if they read it when it came out.

Net Entrepreneurs Only - 10 Entrepreneurs Tell the Stories of their Success by Gregory K. Ericksen and Ernst & Young is an extremely interesting for anyone who enjoys a good success story. However, it’s truly inspiring if you are that entrepreneur who strives come up with the next innovating breakthrough that puts one of these ten entrepreneurs out of business.

Review: Killer Instinct

May 10th, 2009 by admin

Author: Joseph Finder
ISBN: 0312347472

Killer Instinct, the 6th work of fiction from Joseph Finder tells a chilling story about a young sales executive trapped in the rat race of the corporate world where to survive you must have the killer instinct.

As the novel opens, we find Jason Stedman, who works for an electronics company in Framingham, Ma., conversing on his cellular phone with his wife Kate. Unfortunately, his car runs off the highway, nearly killing him, however, luckily, he only suffers a few bruises and cuts. His car is in another story and is in want of considerable repairs.

Along comes Kurt Simko, the driver of the tow-truck that hauls Jason’s car to an auto repair garage owned by a friend of Kurt. Jason hops a ride with Kurt and learns that he was in the special forces of the US military, however, he had been dishonorably discharged. This, however, does not deter Jason from befriending Kurt, and eventually recommending him for employment with his company’s security department.

When Kurt tells Jason “I owe you one. You don’t know me very well, but one thing you’ll learn is, I never forget a favor,” Jason has no idea how his life is about to dramatically change.

What subsequently follows is a series of incidents that have a tremendous impact in boosting Jason’s career up the corporate ladder. At first Jason is unaware that it was Kurt who is making things happen through a variety of devious shenanigans involving Jason’s co-workers and competitors. However, eventually he realizes what is taking place and that Kurt is not such a nice guy. In fact, he is out of control, as he does not give a damn about ethical and legal behavior.

Throughout the novel, Finder moves his tightly woven plot effortlessly from the larger to the smaller picture, bringing us a fascinating perspective of corporate America with all of its intrigue, hypocrisy, deception, paranoia, back stabbing and incompetence. Principal characters are very well developed with the supporting cast all given sufficient detail to make them interesting and relevant.

Joseph Finder has done it again. Killer Instinct displays all the hallmarks of a superior cracking thriller with an absorbing tale with excellent pacing. This is an excellent airport/beach/rainy week-end book that can easily be read in one or two sittings, and you will never feel rushed.

The Rich Jerk Review

Buy this e-book if you’re looking into selling you’re own product (e-book, other digital products, services, physical products, etc.) over the Internet. At the very minimum you’re going to have to create a one-page website that runs all the way down to infinity to sell you’re own product or be a traffic middleman — raking in profits through Google Adsense or Adwords. Buy this also if you’re going to promote sale of several products for a commission. So again just in case you’re confused, the Rich Jerk program is for people who:

1) Want to set up their own online business to sell all sorts of products
2) Want to earn extra through Google Adsense and Google Adwords
3) Want to become an affiliate and earn through commission

A bonus for beginners

The Rich Jerk program is extremely friendly for the beginners. Aside from the fact that the Rich Jerk program is simple enough to read, the Rich Jerk supplements the e-book with a chapter specifically for the beginners wherein he explains in more detail some of the concepts that he mentions in the e-book. For example if you need more elaboration on PPCs and SEOs, do not worry, the supplemental chapter for beginners offers more explanation.

Conclusion

The e-book is a must buy especially for people just beginning or thinking of setting up their own profitable online website. This is a must buy for the budding net entrepreneur.

American Black Nationalism

May 8th, 2009 by admin

The Martin R. Delany is known as the father of American black Nationalism and his novel “Blake or the huts of America” is actually his only literature work. Besides he wrote articles on the social position of African Americans in the USA, and the parts of “Blake” were also published in the newspaper that is why the novel is much influenced by these forms. It has a great value for the historical study because it reflects the actual problems and ideas of the time it was written in.

Martin Delany was the representative of the separatist philosophy in the American history and it is reflected in his novel “Blake or the huts of America” (Dr. Martin Delany: From Black History. Conrad Worrill). This is his central thesis which is rendered through the main character and the development of the plot. The main character, the West Indian man, who was kidnapped to America and sold there as a slave, travels through the South of The USA and gets to Cuba where the rebellion is planned and this form is also transcended to the American idea of black population position in the American society. Thus he starts planning the slave insurrection in the USA. This is the main idea that Delany conveys in his novel.

The methods that Martin R.Delany used in his novel are methods of political and social analysis. The author studies the political and social issues of 1850s - slavery as institution, practicality of militant slave revolution, possibility of collective action. Delany was active politician and his works reflect this. Very interesting is also the form of traveling that he chose for his novel - it was often used by many authors in order to give the reader the broad picture of the society and country situation of the given time. Thus Delany through one character’s traveling shows us the whole American society of 1850s. This is a very difficult literature method which Delany used very genuine.

Martin Delany defines the problem very explicit in the main character Henry and the problem is the position of African Americans in the society of the USA of 1850s. His sympathies are at the side of the oppressed black population and it can be noticed through the description of the main character Henry and other black people in the novel. The main author’s antagonism is directed against the role of Christianity in the black society that proposed the oppressed people to stay humble and obedient, whereas Delany challenged the black population to stand up for their rights and to fight for them with guns when necessary, he hold to just different point of view - active opposition instead of passive submission, and he saw the source of this ideology in Christianity.

The influence of other disciplines are to be found in the novel “Blake or the huts of America” - first, in the chosen subject, second in the analysis the author gives in the direct and indirect way by describing the characters and the events of the plot. In the novel there is the influence of such disciplines as politics study and sociology. Martin Delany meditates on the different forms of political state organization and their possibility for the USA. This is where the description of the Cuban model of self-governed state is important as it is compared to the USA state system. The author also studies such social subjects as the race, class, and gender through the relations between Henry and other characters. Another discipline that is connected with this novel is history because in “Blake or the huts of America” the deep intrinsic historical analysis of the American culture and the place of the black population in it is given and it makes this work indispensable for the American literature and history. At this book mane historical lessons can be learnt.

The work “Blake or the huts of America” has also the personal influences because it was created by Martin Delany as the reply to the book “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Harriet Beecher Stowe, Delany considered this work insufficient of giving the right ideas about the position of the African Americans and that is why he started writing “Blake”. In his novel Delany gives critical answer and opposite point of view to the same subject that was given in the Stowe’s work (2,43).

There is the song that proves the above given ideas, it is from the chapter “The Attack, Resistance, Arrest”:

I’m on my way to Canada
That cold and dreary land:
The dire effects of slavery,
I can no longer stand.
My soul is vexed within me so,
To think that I’m a slave,
I’ve now resolved to strike the blow,
For freedom or the grave.

The conclusion of the work is given through the scenes where Henry meets the Cuban abolitionist poet Gabriel known as Placido who inspires the people to the rebellion by his poems. This character can be viewed as the role model for all the black writers who are to give the real picture of their folk’s situation and must inspire the people to the changes. The broader conclusion is to be found in the outcome of the Cuban revolution and its gaining independence. This Cuba’s model of self-governed black state Martin Delany applied for the USA and the African population in it. His ideas were to immigrate back to Africa or to build independent social system for Africans inside of American state. This conclusion important for social and political life of the black population is given implicitly, without direct call to the revolution but with the clear challenge to act and fight for the rights of the folk. It must have produced the great effect in the social and political life of 1850s in America.

I cannot say that I agree with this conclusion though I am for the equal rights for all the social groups, for different races, classes and genders - here my opinions coincide with the ones of Martin Delany. However I am for other ways of changing the social and political situation, I do not agree that the social revolution can change the folk’s to best, that was sadly proved by the example of the Soviet revolution in Russia in the early 19th century. My opinion is that the changes in society come when there are changes in the people’s attitudes. So my point of view is not for revolution as one of Martin R.Delany, but for evolution, and particularly evolution in the social thoughts and attitudes.

Thinking for Results

May 6th, 2009 by admin

If you are a result oriented person, you have to definitely read one book. The title of the book is “Thinking for Results”. It was written by Christian D Larsen. The book was published in the year 1912. Thousands of readers have benefited by reading the book.

The book starts with a positive note: “That man can change himself, improve himself, recreate himself, control his environment and master his own destiny is the conclusion of every mind who is wide-awake to the power of right thought in constructive action. In fact, it is the conviction of all such minds that man can do practically anything within the possibilities of the human domain when he knows how to think, and that he can secure almost any result desired when he learns how to think for results.”

It is easy to see the vital importance of thinking validly. If we don’t, in all probability we may not get the correct results.
The powers of thought are developed by right thinking.
Man is as he thinks he is, and what he does is the result of the sum total of his thought. The average person however thinks at random and therefore lives at random and does not know from day to day whether good or evil lies in his path.

Have a plan and see it through.

Give your whole life to it.
In thinking for results all circumstances should be viewed as opportunities because that is what they are in reality.
Think positively. Think scientifically. Every thought is a power in the life where it is created and will either promote or retard the purpose of that life.

Thinking is an art. You can master it by learning the secrets.
To think is not expensive. It needs no apparatus, no personnel and no premises. There is no cost involved in thinking! The practice of thinking remains, not only man’s highest and noblest activity, but also one of the few pursuits he may follow without having to pay for it.
The only equipment is one’s head; the gears and pinions of the brain, and the lever that sets them turning.

Do not think of weakness.

Do not think of possible failure.

Do not think of obstacles.

Think of the tremendous power within you. Think how you could turn on the full current of that power so that what you want to accomplish positively will be accomplished.

The Christian D. Larsen’s way is a sure way to: thinking for the best results! One should read the book: Thinking for Results.
